When decorating with books, breathing room plays a very important role. Bookshelves look impressive with lots of books, sure. However, the key to a chic bookcase means working creatively with the space. In many cases, the most attractive shelves are those that show a little leg.

However, this style does tend to be monotonous, so in order to break the repetition, try separating sets of volumes with a personal object de art.

For a more unique book, try alternating side-by-side books with volumes stacked one on top of another. Not only is stacking a unique decorative choice, but it serves as a creative alternative to book-ends. Depending on your preference, you can top the stack with a candle, picture frame or any other personal object. The choice is entirely up to you. The great thing about book decoration is that it can always be updated. You never have to commit to any style for long!
